14 EPIC Breweries in Oregon: Our Favorite Spots Across the State

From the rugged coast to the high desert, Oregon is overflowing with incredible breweries, and we’ve been lucky enough to sip our way through a good chunk of them.

Being that I’m from Oregon and spent all of my adult life in Bend, Oregon, during the beer boom, I’m pretty sure hops run through my veins at this point!

If you’re into hazy IPAs, funky sours, classic lagers, or something experimental and wild, Oregon’s beer scene has it all.

Here’s our roundup of the best breweries in Oregon, based on our very real, very tasty field research.

1. Barley Brown’s Beer – Baker City

Don’t let the low-key vibe fool you—this little brewery in downtown Baker City serves up some of the best beer we had on our entire trip.

The space itself is simple, but the beer? Unforgettable. We visited during fresh hop season and had a limited version of their classic Pallet Jack IPA that absolutely blew us away.

The brewery and restaurant are in separate buildings, but you can grab food from the restaurant and bring it over. Everyone was super friendly, and the atmosphere was chill and welcoming. A true gem in Eastern Oregon.

2. Great Notion Brewing – Portland

This one caught us by surprise—in the best way. Great Notion specializes in sours and hazy IPAs, and they go all in.

Nina had a Blueberry Muffin sour that literally tasted like the baked good, bread and all. I went with the Feniks, a Polish smoked lager that won a 2022 GABF award.

The vibe is fun and creative, with character-themed artwork everywhere and a side room for merch and to-go beers. Their ever-rotating list of dessert sours is insane (think Key Lime Pie and Strawberry Shortcake), and the staff clearly knows their stuff.

3. Terminal Gravity Brewing – Enterprise

Terminal Gravity is tucked away in the stunning Wallowas and feels like an oasis for beer lovers.

The outdoor green space with picnic tables is unbeatable, and you’ll head into a cozy little house to grab your beer or food. There’s even a tiny bar for just a handful of folks.

We grabbed a huge pretzel a couple of beers, and then a growler to-go but can’t remember which beer—we just know it was damn good. Whether you’re road-tripping or hiking nearby, this brewery is a perfect mountain pit stop.

4. pFriem Family Brewers – Hood River

Located right near the water and park in Hood River, pFriem is a top-tier brewery with great food and even better beer.

I used to live here many years ago and would have definitely been a regular if this spot was open back then!

We grabbed a table inside with views of the brewery itself and had a New Zealand Pale Ale that brought those bright, fresh-hop vibes. Garrett had a West Coast Pilsner and loved it.

The space includes an upstairs, a patio, and easy access to all the outdoor action along the Columbia River. The brewery feels modern but still super warm and welcoming—a perfect stop after kayaking, hiking, or just hanging by the water.

5. Public Coast Brewing Co – Cannon Beach

This Cannon Beach favorite looks like a beach house from the outside and has a chill, coastal vibe throughout.

There’s a large outdoor seating area, a small indoor bar, and a menu with more seafood than your usual pub. Nina had a mango jalapeño sour, and I loved the coconut brown ale (award-winning, by the way).

They also make their own root beer and root beer floats for the non-beer crowd. It’s the kind of place where you can roll in sandy, sun-kissed (if you’re lucky enough), and still feel right at home.

6. Astoria Brewing Company – Astoria

If you like beer with a view, this is your spot. Right along the Riverwalk, Astoria Brewing has a deck perfect for watching the trolley roll by.

Their Marionberry Cobbler beer is a dessert in a glass, and the West Coast IPA is crisp and easy-drinking.

There’s a big, open layout with a gift shop full of Goonies merch and even a classic car inside. Order at the bar, grab a table, and enjoy the friendly vibes and well-executed pub fare.

Astoria is definitely one of our go-to towns on the Oregon coast, and this brewery is a guaranteed stop every time we are here.

7. Boneyard Beer – Bend

Boneyard is a Bend, Oregon brewery legend. Their OG location is a literal garage—tiny, no seating, just beer-to-go and tastings. But it’s a rite of passage.

For a full experience, head to their newer north location with food and more space to hang.

You can’t leave without trying their RPM IPA, Diablo Rojo, or Hop Venom—absolute bangers that helped shape Bend’s beer scene.

Bonus: the bar setup has vintage charm and retro feels in all the right ways.

8. Wayfinder Beer – Portland

This brewery blends industrial chic with bierhall energy, and it’s one of our Portland staples.

The open patio is great in warm weather, and the huge indoor space is perfect for winter hangs. Garrett had a cheeseburger, Nina had a cauliflower bánh mì, and both were chef’s kiss.

The Helles lager, served in a Czech-style mug, was the showstopper. Clean, crisp, and just a touch bready. We came for the beer but left talking about both the food and the whole experience.

9. Thunder Island Brewing Co – Cascade Locks

Located under the Bridge of the Gods, Thunder Island has the best scenery of any brewery on this list.

The two-level setup includes a beer garden and views of the Columbia Gorge. Inside, you can see the brewing equipment and the team in action.

The Belgian IPA, Capri Sun sour, and Govy 500 IPA were all standouts. Food-wise, you’ll find a mix of noodle bowls, burgers, and pub favorites. It’s a small menu, but everything was solid.

10. Van Henion Brewing – Bend

This spot flew under the radar for a while but is now one of our Bend faves.

It’s in the old Boneyard production facility, and the brewers are Boneyard alums—so yeah, they know what they’re doing. The interior is clean and calm, with a European vibe.

They only have five beers on tap, but each one is brewed with precision. It’s a chill hang, away from downtown’s chaos, and feels like a little retreat for beer nerds.

11. Rogue Ales & Spirits – Newport

Rogue is a juggernaut, but visiting the original brewery in Newport is still special.

Housed in what was once a fish-processing facility, this massive space includes a bar, restaurant, overflow seating, and a gift shop. Oh, and you walk through the brewery to get in—very cool.

They also distill spirits here, so don’t miss the chance to try their whiskey or absinthe. We saw them canning a seasonal Cold IPA during our visit, and it was awesome to watch the operation in action.

12. Chetco Brewing Company – Brookings

Chetco has a quirky charm that makes it feel like a true small-town gem.

The space is split between indoor bar seating, a semi-enclosed patio, and a sunroom-style area that’s perfect when it’s windy. There’s usually a food truck or two on site.

The beer lineup impressed us—standouts included an apricot sour, the Chetco Effect Pale Ale, and the Summer Salmon IPA. The vibe is chill, dog-friendly, and beach-adjacent, with some fun coastal-meets-woodsy decor.

13. Bevel Craft Brewing – Bend

Disk golf, fire pits, and food trucks—Bevel is laid-back Bend at its best.

This place isn’t flashy or touristy; it’s a locals’ hangout with solid beer and a cozy setup. The outdoor space has picnic tables and fire pits, and the beer is always excellent.

You can tell the team here brews because they love it. Everything we’ve tried has been well-balanced, flavorful, and brewed with care. It’s an easy place to lose track of time in the best way.

14. Baerlic Brewing & Taproom – Portland

Baerlic nails that balance between excellent beer and an inviting space.

The indoor taproom is roomy with cozy touches like a winter fireplace, and there’s sidewalk picnic seating out front. Inside, they’ve got Ranch—a pizza spot serving up some seriously fresh pies.

We had an amazing Hawaiian pizza, and paired it with a Punk Rock Time IPA and a Nice & Easy sour. It’s a self-serve setup with tons of options, making it one of our favorite Portland spots for beer and food.
